About this role

ABOUT THE ROLE The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), Bureau of Engineering Design & Construction, seeks two Assistant Environmental Engineers to serve as Assistant Project Managers for the Wastewater Capital Program directorate in Queens, NY. The role involves supporting upgrades and state of good repair construction projects at wastewater resource recovery facilities, combined sewer overflow facilities, and pumping stations. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Support the project team in preparing, negotiating, and processing modifications to consultant contract scope, cost, and schedule. - Serve as design and construction support staff, ensuring Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) is incorporated throughout the project lifecycle. - Develop seamless communication and coordination with agency bureaus, other city agencies, and key stakeholders. - Resolve issues and perform risk mitigation to maintain project momentum. - Manage project delivery quality and continuously monitor key performance indicators regarding budget, schedule, and contract metrics. - Develop and track contract documents. - Manage the development of design documents. - Conduct field investigations and develop solutions to emerging issues. - Review and maintain scope, schedule, and cost development and management. - Handle contract administration and procurement. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 1. A baccalaureate degree in environmental, chemical, mechanical, petroleum, aeronautical, or materials engineering from an accredited college or university and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in environmental engineering work; or 2. A baccalaureate degree in environmental, chemical, mechanical, petroleum, aeronautical, or materials engineering from an accredited college and a master’s degree in environmental engineering from an accredited college. (A master's degree may only substitute for one year of full-time satisfactory work experience). SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - Internal Candidates Only: Only applicants who are permanent Civil Service Assistant Environmental Engineers are eligible to apply. Non-permanent candidates will not be considered for an interview. - Physical Demands: May require working extended days and performing fieldwork involving standing and walking on uneven surfaces, steep slopes, and stairs in all weather conditions. - Driving: Requires operation of a motor vehicle for site visits, equipment testing, inspections, and stakeholder meetings. - 55-a Program: Open to qualified persons with a disability.
