ABOUT THE ROLE
The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), Bureau of Engineering Design & Construction, seeks two Assistant Project Managers for the Wastewater Capital Program directorate in Queens, NY. The role supports upgrades and state of good repair construction projects at wastewater resource recovery facilities, combined sewer overflow facilities, and pumping stations, with an emphasis on environmental health, safety, quality, schedule, budget, and client service.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support achievement of project goals and milestones, ensuring schedules, reports, and work products conform to the program scope of work.
- Support preparation, negotiation, and processing of modifications to consultant contract scope, cost, and schedule.
- Serve as design and construction support staff, ensuring Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) is incorporated throughout the project lifecycle.
- Develop seamless communication and coordination with agency bureaus, other city agencies, and key stakeholders.
- Resolve issues and mitigate risks to keep projects moving, managing quality of project delivery and monitoring key performance indicators for budget, schedule, and contract metrics.
- Develop and track contract documents.
- Manage development of design documents.
- Conduct field investigations and develop solutions to issues.
- Review and maintain scope, schedule, and cost development and management.
- Handle contract administration and procurement.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in engineering, architecture, construction management, urban planning, business administration, public administration, or a related field, and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in project management work for engineering, architectural, or landscape architectural projects; or
2. A four-year high school diploma (or educational equivalent) and five years of experience as described in "1" above; or
3. A four-year high school diploma (or educational equivalent) plus any combination of experience and/or college education to make up the equivalent of five years. One year of credit is given for each 30 semester credits of college education leading to a baccalaureate degree in a related field.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Internal City Employees Only: Only applicants who are permanent Civil Service Project Managers are eligible to apply. Non-permanent candidates will not be considered for an interview.
- Physical Demands: May require extended workdays and fieldwork involving standing and walking on uneven surfaces, steep slopes, and stairs in all weather conditions.
- Driving Requirement: Requires operation of a motor vehicle for site visits, equipment testing, inspections, and stakeholder meetings.
- Preferred Skills: Robust knowledge of wastewater treatment systems and equipment, understanding of applicable codes and design guidelines, ability to read engineering reports and drawings, and excellent communication skills.

SELECTION PROCESS
An exam may be required. Only permanent Civil Service Project Managers will be considered for an interview. All appointments are subject to Office of Management and Budget (OMB) approval.
