ABOUT THE ROLE
This role applies generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) to oversee financial reporting, accounting, and compliance for the City’s capital projects. The Senior Accountant will analyze financial information, prepare financial reports, and ensure accurate tracking and management of capital project funds and associated funding sources.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain and reconcile capital project funds, including assets, liabilities, revenues, and expenditures.
- Prepare journal entries to the general ledger related to capital projects and associated funding sources.
- Monitor capital project budgets and analyze variances between budgeted and actual expenditures.
- Record and track revenues from bonds, grants, contributions, and other capital funding sources.
- Compile and submit documentation for reimbursements (e.g., bonds, grants).
- Prepare documentation and schedules for the annual audit and respond to auditor inquiries.
- Research and resolve any discrepancies for all assigned governmental funds and accounts.
- Utilize computerized accounting systems to maintain accurate records and generate financial and accounting reports.
- Participate in special projects when needed and perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in accounting or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid driver’s license.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- May require working evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
- In the event of major storms or other emergency situations, this position may be subject to 24-hour shifts or any other emergency schedule necessary to meet the City’s needs.
