ABOUT THE ROLE
The NYC Department of Design and Construction, Communications & Policy Division seeks an Outreach Coordinator to serve as a critical member of the Office of Community Outreach and Notification (OCON) and Intergovernmental Affairs (IGA) teams. Reporting to the Deputy Director of OCON, this role coordinates outreach to community boards, elected officials, civic groups, and the public regarding the City's street infrastructure and public building construction programs. The coordinator conducts site assessments, participates in meetings, and monitors consultant outreach tasks to identify and lessen adverse community impacts.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Build and coordinate networks with agency partners, non-profit partners, and community stakeholders to problem-solve and evaluate progress.
- Provide outreach oversight, administration, and guidance to ensure high-quality services.
- Assist in coordinating and reviewing data requests for internal and external stakeholders.
- Perform field office and construction site visits across all five boroughs to ensure performance standards.
- Prepare reports and carry out special assignments, tasks, and projects as assigned.
- Track critical projects, perform consultant onboarding, and address external tasks related to community liaisons.
- Provide ongoing training, orientation, and technical assistance to consultants.
- Represent OCON by attending Community Board and progress meetings (occasional evenings may be required).
- Prepare written and verbal reports, maintain records, and review CCL advisories, reports, and presentations.
- Support OCON unit programs, including Community Construction Liaisons (CCL) and Engagement Outreach Notification (EON) groups, with cross-functional administrative, operational, and procurement support.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community-centered activities related to the duties described; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community-centered activities related to the duties described; or
3. Education and/or experience equivalent to option 1 or 2, provided the candidate has at least one year of experience as described in option 1.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be currently authorized to work full-time in the United States. DDC cannot support or sponsor any visa applications, extensions, or permanent residence sponsorship.
- Educational credentials must be from a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accredited institution. Foreign credentials require independent equivalency verification from an approved evaluation service.
- A valid Motor Vehicle Driver's License is essential, with the ability to travel throughout all five boroughs of NYC.
- New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment (with specific exceptions for certain City Employees).
- Familiarity with the City's street infrastructure and public building systems.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment with strong written and verbal presentation skills.
- Computer skills emphasizing Microsoft Word, Publisher, PowerPoint, and photographic equipment for project-related videos.
