About This Position

ABOUT THE ROLE The Defense Health Agency is hiring a Health Technician to serve as a Paramedic and First Responder on the Emergency Response Team (ERT) at Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Fort Gordon, Georgia. This position involves providing Advanced Life Support (ALS) treatment, performing triage, conducting site assessments, and transporting emergency victims. The incumbent will operate emergency vehicles, coordinate with 911 centers and military police/fire departments, and stabilize patients with complex medical crises. This is a Mission Essential position requiring shift work, overtime, and readiness for severe weather or emergency recall. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Serve as a Paramedic and first responder on the ERT for the assigned Medical Treatment Facility. - Provide technical and administrative support for ALS treatment in emergency environments. - Perform triage to determine the number and severity of victims and their conditions. - Conduct site assessments of incident locations and request additional resources as needed. - Perform intake procedures, including obtaining medical history (allergies, sensitivities) and recording vital signs. - Transport emergency victims to medical facilities for further treatment. - Operate and maintain emergency vehicles, ensuring they are operational through routine safety checks. - Coordinate with 911 centers, military police, and fire department personnel for emergency responses. - Recognize, stabilize, and provide emergent care for complex medical crises and acute injuries. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen. - Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service, including: 1. Responding to emergencies as a paramedic, first responder, or ERT member. 2. Performing on-site preliminary assessments, victim triage, and treatment. 3. Providing transport of emergency victims to medical facilities. - Note: No substitution of education for experience is permitted. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - Certifications: Must have and maintain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications. - Training: Must obtain and maintain NIMS ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800 level training within six months of hire. - Licenses: Must possess a valid state Driver's License. A job-related license or certification (e.g., Paramedic license) must be submitted with the application. - Health Requirements: - Mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination (unless exempted). - Hepatitis B immunization required for direct patient contact. - Pre-employment and annual physical examinations required. - Urinalysis for illegal drug use prior to appointment; subject to random drug testing. - Physical Demands: May require lifting up to 100 pounds. - Work Schedule: Shift work (evenings, weekends, holidays), rotating shifts, and unscheduled overtime. Mission Essential status requires reporting during severe weather or emergencies. - Background Investigation: Subject to background investigation, including specific requirements for interaction with children/youth under 18. - Resume Limit: Resumes must be two pages or less.
