At the same time, they sit inside strict guardrails: pilots in cities like Seattle keep AI recommendations sandboxed, logged, and subject to human override, while emerging guidelines from groups such as NENA and AI-focused research institutes warn that speed gains cannot come at the expense of privacy, transparency, or community trust. This article explores that tension- how to harness AI’s pattern-recognition power to save lives without surrendering human judgment, accountability, or the dignity of the people on the other end of the line.

AI-assisted dispatch systems function as decision-support tools, not autonomous operators.
