ABOUT THE ROLE Loudoun County's Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services is seeking a full-time Aquatics Coordinator for the Ashburn Recreation & Community Center. This role oversees multiple facets of aquatics programs and directs personnel under the supervision of the site operations manager. The Coordinator advocates for program services, manages budgets, ensures effective service delivery, maintains records, evaluates revenue and success, and supervises staff. The position requires continual oversight of aquatics operations, strong problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and the ability to adapt to changing situations as part of a collaborative team. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Develop maintenance schedules, conduct daily safety inspections, perform minor fixes per Health Department regulations, and maintain precise documentation. - Monitor pool activities, identify potential hazards, enforce safety regulations, maintain radio communication, and ensure proper staff rotation. - Procure necessary pool-related supplies and equipment per Department guidelines. - Plan aquatic programs including open swim, instruction, fitness, and special events, adhering to capacity and program requirements. - Establish the pool for effective leisure swimming operations in accordance with schedules and designated hours. - Direct lifeguards and water attendants, ensure accurate attendance records, and supervise the full-time Aquatics Programmer and Aquatics Supervisor. - Hire and comprehensively train new program staff on Center and aquatics program policies and procedures. - Perform daily and weekly chemical readings, maintain detailed logs, ensure compliance with health code standards, and oversee chemical inventory. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Bachelor's degree in Leisure and Recreation Service or a closely related field. - Two (2) years of relevant work experience, with at least one (1) year in a supervisory role, or a comparable combination of education and experience. - Preferred qualifications: American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Trainer and/or Water Safety Instructor Trainer (or equivalent), CPRP certification (or equivalent), membership in related professional organizations, and completion of NRPA National Aquatics Management School (NAMS). SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - Must be physically able to lift fifty (50) pounds. - Valid driver's license and a good driving record (annual checks may be conducted). - Must obtain the following certifications within department timelines: Pool Operators license, Lifeguard Instructor Certification (required at time of hire), Water Safety Instructor, CPR and First Aid, and First Aid Instructor certifications. - Must complete Bloodborne Pathogen training, facility-specific building and pool systems training, and County-required Supervisory Courses including E-learning.
