ABOUT THE ROLE
Under general supervision, the Clinical Psychologist conducts professional-level work in clinical psychology. This includes carrying out psychodiagnostics examinations and psychotherapy for individuals with emotional disturbances, mental illness, substance use disorders, and developmental delays. The role also involves preparing psychological reports, providing consultation services, and participating in psychological research to protect and promote the health of San Franciscans.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide direct clinical services including evaluations, individual and group psychotherapy, and counseling for children and adults
- Prepare clinical psychological reports presenting diagnostic findings and treatment recommendations
- Select, administer, score, and interpret psychological tests and conduct diagnostic clinical interviews
- Review social agency, school, and court records and consult with multidisciplinary professionals regarding cases
- Provide education and consultation to community groups on mental health, substance use disorders, and culturally relevant services
- Supervise psychology interns and subordinate clinical staff and conduct staff training programs
- Participate in the planning and execution of psychology training internships and postdoctoral traineeships
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Possession of a valid license as a Psychologist issued by the California Board of Psychology
- Applicants with an out-of-state license may apply but must obtain a valid California license prior to appointment
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Some positions require 6 months of post-graduate level psychological testing and reporting experience
- Some positions require 12 months of clinical experience with children
- Some positions require bilingual fluency in languages such as Cantonese or Spanish, and passing a bilingual proficiency test
SELECTION PROCESS
1. Training and Experience Examination: Weighted at 100 percent. Measures knowledge of clinical psychology, psychometry, psychotherapeutic methods, and the ability to carry out evidence-based practices, prepare professional reports, and communicate effectively.
2. Eligible List: Candidates who pass are placed on the confidential eligible list using the Rule of the List. Names remain on the list for a maximum of 12 months.
