About this role

About the Role: The San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH) is seeking a Behavioral Health Clinician to assess prospective clients, develop treatment plans, provide psychotherapy, and collaborate with other service providers. This role involves working with diverse populations, managing caseloads, and participating in quality improvement activities to promote mental health and recovery. Key Responsibilities: - Assess prospective clients and families for psychiatric services by interviewing and reviewing psychosocial history. - Analyze data to determine the appropriateness of referral and make recommendations for case disposition. - Compile and maintain client records, including written and electronic documentation, charts, and billing information. - Establish and maintain professional relationships by collaborating with other service providers and attending staff meetings. - Develop and implement comprehensive treatment plans aimed at wellness and recovery. - Provide individual, group, and family psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and case management. - Refer clients to appropriate community resources and actively manage caseloads to meet client needs. - Advocate for accessibility and improved services for clients and groups. - Participate in Quality Improvement activities and may supervise support staff such as Health Workers. Minimum Qualifications: 1. Possession of a valid license issued by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) for one of the following: - Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) - Associate Clinical Social Worker (ASW) - Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) - Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT) - Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) - Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC) Special Requirements: - Nature of work requires carrying out and explaining established methods and procedures to applicants, recipients, and others. - Involves gathering, compiling, and reviewing detailed psychiatric, financial, personal, and confidential information. - Occasional exposure to accident hazards and disagreeable elements when dealing with mentally ill and emotionally disturbed persons. Selection Process: 1. Training and Experience Examination: 100 percent weight. Measures knowledge of laws, psychiatric case management, clinical methods, decision-making, and communication skills. Must be completed via the required exam link. 2. Departmental Selection: Additional selection processes may be conducted by the hiring department prior to final hiring decisions. 3. Eligible List: Candidates who pass are placed on the eligible list using the Rule of List. Names remain on the list for a maximum of 12 months.
