About This Position

ABOUT THE ROLE The Part-time Event Personnel position is primarily responsible for custodial duties at the Baltimore Convention Center. Part-time employees report to an operations Supervisor who directs housekeeping services. The incumbent handles daily maintenance and custodial responsibilities for both public and private sections of the facility. This is a non-exempt and non-essential position. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Clean and disinfect restrooms and replenish supplies - Clean, dust, and wipe furniture - Sweep, mop, and/or vacuum floors - Empty, clean, and line wastebaskets and recycling containers inside and outside the facility - Clean and dust walls, lockers, furniture, and fixtures - Follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies as directed - Polish elevators, escalators, railings, and other metal fixtures - Wash walls and clean interior and exterior windows - Perform related duties as required MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Education: High School Diploma or GED Certificate - Experience: One year of work experience - Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable - Ability to work effectively in a service-oriented environment with changing priorities - Knowledge of proper and safe use of custodial equipment, chemicals, and tools - Ability to operate vacuums, scrubbers, polishers, and similar equipment - Ability to communicate and interact effectively with staff and diverse constituents - Ability to understand, follow, and read written instructions, manuals, signs, and product labels in English (orally and in writing) - Ability to maintain acceptable work habits, punctuality, and regular attendance - Ability to prioritize workload to meet daily schedules - Ability to assist the general public and show promoters with basic questions or obtain supervisor assistance SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - Must be available for flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays - Shift examples include 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM, 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and/or 6:00 PM to 12:00 Midnight - Must be able to stand and walk for large portions of the day SELECTION PROCESS - Eligible candidates under final consideration for this position of trust must complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint screening, which must be successfully completed - All selected persons, including current City employees, must complete a 6-month mandatory probation period HOW TO APPLY - Apply through the official City of Baltimore careers portal - Reference Job Requisition ID: R0019563 - Applicants requiring accommodation during the hiring process should contact the Department of Human Resources directly (requests should not be attached to the application) EMPLOYMENT DETAILS - Location: Baltimore Convention Center - Time Type: Part-time - Civil Service Status: Non-Civil Service Position - FLSA Status: Non-exempt, Non-essential - Benefits: Medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, optional life, AD&D, and FSA plans, along with wellness programs, support groups, and workshops - Equal Opportunity Employer: Baltimore City Government prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, age, sex, ancestry, creed, national origin, disability status, genetics, marital status, military service, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, or any other protected characteristic
