ABOUT THE ROLE Under the administrative direction of the Deputy Director of Prevention and Restorative Services, this role provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, program development, and systems coordination for the Reentry Division of the San Francisco Adult Probation Department (SFAPD). The position leads complex Citywide reentry initiatives, develops and implements new programs and service-delivery models, strengthens community and interagency partnerships, and ensures high-quality operations supporting justice-involved individuals. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Manages complex programs, operational activities, and strategic projects ensuring alignment with departmental priorities and measurable outcomes. - Develops, designs, and implements new programs and initiatives in response to emerging departmental, legislative, operational, and community needs. - Provides leadership and managerial oversight to staff, including supervising, training, coaching, and evaluating personnel. - Works with executive leadership to develop and implement goals, policies, procedures, and strategies for the Reentry Division. - Manages highly sensitive and confidential records related to justice-involved individuals and departmental operations. - Leads systems improvement and organizational change efforts to strengthen coordination across reentry, pretrial, and behavioral health services. - Maintains an active leadership presence in the community and develops strategic partnerships with community-based organizations and justice-system partners. - Monitors and analyzes local, state, and federal legislation and policy developments affecting probation and reentry. - Participates in budget development, resource allocation, contract oversight, and financial monitoring. - Represents the Department before the Mayor's Office, Board of Supervisors, Superior Court, and other City departments. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university. - Three (3) years of full-time equivalent experience performing professional level work in Reentry Services. - Substitution: May substitute up to 2 years of education for Bachelor of Arts degrees with additional years of experience. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - Must be available to work non-traditional hours, which might include evenings and weekends. - Desirable qualifications include: - Two (2) years of supervisory experience. - Master's degree in Social Services, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a closely related field. - Three (3) years of public sector experience in the provision of reentry-related services for criminal justice-involved individuals. - Experience working in pretrial services delivery, operations, and administration. - Experience working in community development in areas impacted by substance abuse and/or the criminal justice system. - Experience developing recovery and housing programs. - Contract development and compliance experience.
