Principal IT Production Engineer

ABOUT THE ROLE This position is open only to internal King County employees. King County Information Technology (KCIT) is seeking a highly skilled Principal IT Production Engineer to join the Workstation Design and Automation (WDA) team. Serving as a technical lead, this role works directly with the Enterprise SCCM Architect to support and enhance the enterprise-wide SCCM production environment. The position drives complex project work, monitors workstation patch compliance, tracks device health metrics, addresses advanced endpoint automation requests, and resolves technical escalations, while contributing to the modernization of the endpoint device management infrastructure. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Serve as a technical lead for project work and initiatives related to endpoint device management, lifecycle, and modernization. - Identify, design, and implement advanced device management solutions, including complex software packaging, deployment strategies, and automation workflows. - Lead planning, development, and execution of automation initiatives to drive efficiency, standardization, and scalability. - Support the Enterprise SCCM production environment to ensure reliability, security, and operational excellence. - Monitor and report on workstation patch compliance and track device health metrics. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - At least 7 years of demonstrated experience providing workstation/end user support, troubleshooting computer equipment, resolving application issues, and troubleshooting network connectivity. - At least 7 years of demonstrated experience supporting recent Microsoft Operating Systems and Microsoft Office Suites (e.g., Windows 7, 10, 11 & Office 2016, 2019, 365). - Demonstrated experience in a technical lead role. - Highly skilled in identifying objectives and key results (OKRs) and setting clear, measurable goals. - Advanced knowledge of the SCCM environment, security, and stand-alone automation. - Experience addressing customer escalations and resolving them within the workstation space. - Experience participating in formal project teams and acting as a technical liaison. - Skilled with diagnostic tools, logs, command line, and scripting tools for troubleshooting. - Experience supporting enterprise collaboration tools (Microsoft Teams, Zoom, etc.) and IT service management tools. - Experience building/imaging computer hardware utilizing SCCM and Microsoft Endpoint Manager. - Experienced with application packaging, deployment methodologies, and managing collections within SCCM. - Extensive knowledge of LANs, hardware/software installation, systems integration, and VPN connectivity. - Extensive knowledge of level 1 cloud-based technologies (OneDrive, SharePoint, etc.). - Ability to communicate complex technical information to non-technical audiences and handle multiple competing priorities. - Understanding of Equity and Social Justice principles.
