About This Position

ABOUT THE ROLE Reporting to the Chief of Streets, this role provides operational, managerial, and strategic support for the Streets Cabinet. The position involves helping direct and support staff in achieving key priorities, driving organizational change, and assisting with the day-to-day administration of the Cabinet. The Chief of Staff will coordinate with the Mayor’s Office, Office of Neighborhood Services, Intergovernmental Relations, and the Streets Cabinet Communication and Engagement team to ensure responsiveness to administration priorities, while supporting the modernization of business processes and systems for efficient, high-level customer service. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Serve as the primary advisor to the Chief of Streets on policy and political strategy, managing time, resources, and stakeholder access - Collaborate with Streets Human Resources and Labor Relations on personnel matters - Interview and recommend candidates, coordinate training opportunities, and support onboarding for new supervisors - Coordinate workflows with the Communication and Engagement team to develop mission and project-driven community and stakeholder engagement - Build a positive, collaborative staff culture and strong professional development system - Coordinate with Cabinet Leadership on the planning and development of the Cabinet’s capital plan - Support alignment of Public Works and Transportation Department operations and enforcement activities - Support alignment of resources to address constituent needs and basic city services - Support project and program management activities, focusing on Permitting Reform, Waste Reduction, Code Enforcement, and capital project delivery - Support the development of annual operating and capital budgets for the Streets Cabinet and its divisions - Facilitate regular interagency coordination with major public agency partners, including MassDOT, MBTA, DCR, and Massport - Attend internal and external meetings, both remotely and in-person - Perform related work as required MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - At least five (5) years of full-time (or equivalent part-time) management experience, preferably in the public sector, including a combination of project or program management, communications, and stakeholder engagement - A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university - Strong written and oral communication skills - Experience with data analytics and analysis - Ability to produce memoranda, letters, presentations, and reports - Proficiency in modern productivity and collaboration tools, Microsoft Office, and Google Suite - Ability to think strategically and lead complex projects or assignments SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - Boston Residency is strictly required - Ability to work in person at Boston City Hall at least 4 days per week SELECTION PROCESS - The City of Boston is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to a diverse and inclusive environment - Qualified applicants will be considered regardless of sex, race, age, religion, color, national origin, ancestry, physical or mental disability, genetic information, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, military and veteran status, or other protected category - Specific testing or interview processes are not detailed in this posting, but standard municipal hiring protocols will apply HOW TO APPLY 1.
