Assistant EHS Management System (MS) Data Coordinator

ABOUT THE ROLE The Office of Environmental Health and Safety (OEHS) is seeking an Assistant EHS MS Data Coordinator for the Performance Measurement & Strategic Planning Section in Flushing, Queens. This role supports the oversight and management of the agency’s EHS Audit Program, Process Safety Management, and Risk Management programs. The coordinator will perform scientific and applied research and analysis in EHS, with latitude for independent judgment under the supervision of the EHS MS Data Analyst. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Support strategic development and implementation of EHS management systems, including ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards - Assist in all agency EHS MS development activities - Conduct technical review and interpretation of EHS incident and compliance data (incident reporting, workplace violence, notices of violation, fleet safety data) for executive leadership and monthly metrics - Maintain and manage multiple EHS datasets, conduct Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) activities, and develop QA/QC reports - Assist in developing agencywide EHS policies, procedures, benchmarking studies, management system training, and presentations - Develop EHS performance metrics from compliance information systems - Prepare technical reports, executive summaries, memoranda, and training presentations on EHS topics - Maintain strong technical proficiency with laptops, tablets, and software - Participate in special projects mandated by OEHS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Assignment Level I: A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in physical, biological, environmental science, or public health. - Assignment Level II and above: A doctorate degree with specialization in an appropriate science field and one year of full-time responsible supervisory, administrative, or research experience; OR a master's degree with three years of responsible full-time research experience; OR equivalent education/experience. All candidates must have at least a master's degree and two years of relevant experience. Two years as a City Research Scientist Level I can substitute for the required experience. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - Probationary Period: Appointments are subject to a minimum one-year probationary period. - Residency Requirement: New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. Employees with 2 continuous years of City service may be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. - Preferred Skills: Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), knowledge of OSHA, NYS/DOL-PESH, USEPA, NYSDEC, NYCDOB, and NYCFDNY regulations, experience with EHS incident management systems, professional certifications (e.g., CSP, ASP, CPEA, CIH, CHMM, ISO Lead Auditor), strong communication and technical report writing skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure.
