About This Position
About The Role
The Washington State Department of Corrections is seeking a full-time, permanent Dentist to join the Health Services team at the Washington Corrections Center in Shelton, WA. This role involves performing medically necessary dental procedures on incarcerated individuals while adhering to department policies and protocols to improve patient health and contribute to reduced recidivism.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide medically necessary dental care to incarcerated patients under the supervision of the Health Services Manager and Chief of Dentistry.
- Perform diagnostic, preventive, periodontics, endodontics, oral surgery, prosthetics, and operative procedures.
- Provide clinical supervision to dental assistants and dental hygienists consistent with Washington State laws and department policies.
- Delegate clinical duties to dental staff in accordance with WA State Laws (WAC and RCW).
- Perform all duties authorized by the WA State Department of Health.
Minimum Qualifications
- A valid, unencumbered Washington State license to practice as a Dentist.
- A valid and current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification.
- Possession of unrestricted Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration to prescribe controlled substances.
- Compliance with health screening requirements, including tuberculosis testing.
- Preferred qualifications include two years of clinical experience, skill in surgical extractions, and experience in a correctional or public health clinic.
Special Requirements
- Must pass a background check including criminal record history and a pre-employment drug test.
- Must complete a respirator medical evaluation, fit testing, and training.
- Physical requirements include climbing stairs, walking long distances, frequently lifting up to 30 pounds, and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds or pushing up to 100 pounds.
- Must provide valid proof of a baseline TB skin test within 60 days of hire.
- Must possess work authorization that does not require employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.
- Foreign equivalent degrees must include a credential evaluation report.
