SALARY Yearly: $86,664 minimum to $147,318 maximum (FY27) Pay Grade 12 DAG I: $86,664 minimum to $95,329 maximum Pay Grade 14 DAG II: $100,562 minimum to $105,468 maximum Pay Grade 16 DAG III: $111,069 minimum to $113,509 maximum Pay Grade 18 DAG IV: $122,094 minimum to $128,010 maximum Pay Grade 20 DAG V: $137,215 minimum to $147,318 maximum ABOUT THE ROLE The Criminal Division is seeking to fill five Deputy Attorney General positions within its Misdemeanor Trial Units across New Castle, Kent, and Sussex Counties. These attorneys will represent the Attorney General in hearings related to pretrial release and preventive detention, which must occur shortly after arrest. They will appear in various courts, including the Justice of the Peace Court, Court of Common Pleas, and Superior Court. In addition to detention hearings, they will manage a misdemeanor caseload within their assigned county. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Represent the State in detention-related hearings shortly after arrest. - Appear in the Justice of the Peace Court, Court of Common Pleas, and Superior Court. - Prepare legal arguments and review case materials for hearings. - Coordinate with law enforcement and criminal justice partners. - Manage a misdemeanor caseload within the assigned county. - Determine appropriate case resolutions and formulate plea offers. - Try misdemeanor cases that are not otherwise resolved. - Interact with members of the public and negotiate with defense counsel. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Strong analytical and research skills. - Ability to evaluate criminal cases, determine appropriate resolutions, and anticipate legal issues. - Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, support staff, and court personnel. - Initiative and the ability to learn and apply relevant laws and court rules. - Ability to develop and demonstrate strong courtroom skills. - Eligibility for limited admission pursuant to Supreme Court Rule 55 (Delaware Bar membership is not required).
