About This Position
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Delaware Department of Justice seeks a Deputy Attorney General to provide general counsel to the Delaware Department of Labor (DOL). The role supports multiple divisions, including Employment and Training, Industrial Affairs, Vocational Rehabilitation, Occupational and Labor Market Information, and the Industrial Accident Board. The DOL operates statewide labor exchange systems, ensures workplace fairness and safety, handles wage and hour issues, and provides vocational rehabilitation services.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as a subject matter expert in Delaware labor laws and provide related legal advice.
- Draft and review legislation, regulations, contracts, and requests for proposals.
- Ensure procurement law compliance and manage Delaware Freedom of Information Act requests.
- Advise on personnel management issues.
- Represent the DOL, its officers, and employees in court and administrative proceedings.
- Handle additional assignments as directed by the Department of Justice.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Active membership in the Delaware Bar is required.
- Demonstrated legal ability and a thorough knowledge of relevant laws and court rules.
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and communicate clearly with client agencies.
- Prior general counsel and labor law experience is preferred but not required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be willing to travel within the state of Delaware to meet departmental needs and attend scheduled meetings.
- Position is based in New Castle County, but statewide travel is required as needed to support operations.

EMPLOYMENT DETAILS

- Location: Carvel State Office Building, 820 N French St., Wilmington, DE 19801.
- Telework: Eligible.

- Conditions: Direct deposit of paychecks is required. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
