About this role

ABOUT THE ROLE The Solid Waste Division is seeking customer-focused Transfer Station Operators who are responsive problem solvers supporting environmental sustainability goals. In this role, you will educate customers on diverting material away from the landfill, collaborate with recycle vendors, and recover reusable resources. You will stay busy rotating between tasks, operating a variety of equipment, and working at several locations to drive positive operational changes. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Safely operate transfer station equipment including front end loaders, pre-load compactors, pedestal compactors, backhoe loaders, bailers, forklifts, skid steers, and yard trucks to pull trailers into chutes and out to parking areas. - Provide customer-centric interaction with the public and commercial haulers to educate and direct patrons with recycling diversion. - Safely assist customers to maneuver and park vehicles and properly utilize the facility to avoid injury. - Screen for hazardous and unacceptable materials and take appropriate action. - Maintain property and facility within the boundary. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Minimum one year of experience operating specific heavy equipment such as front end loaders, mini excavators, or driving/hosteling truck and trailer. - Minimum one year of experience providing customer service in an industrial environment. - Minimum one year of experience operating hand tools in an industrial environment. - Basic computer skills for timesheet entry, email communication, virtual training, and meetings. - Basic mechanical skills providing facility and yard maintenance. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - Valid Washington State Driver's License and the ability to travel to multiple transfer station locations during the workday or shift. - Ability to work in and operate heavy equipment and machinery on uneven slopes, surfaces, and terrain. - Ability to work in heat, cold, wet/humid, inclement weather, and other adverse conditions such as odor, high volume noise, dust, heavy traffic, and confined spaces. - Able to lift and carry 50 pounds. - Experience working in adverse weather conditions and an industrial environment.
