About This Position

ABOUT THE ROLE A classroom teacher fosters and enhances an effective learning environment for multilingual high school students at Seattle World School. The role involves facilitating curriculum development, providing instruction, counseling, and evaluating student progress. The specific classes and exact times on campus are to be determined, but the schedule begins at 12:45 pm and ends at 4:40 pm. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Foster an educational environment conducive to learning and plan instructional programs to meet individual and group needs. - Use appropriate instructional methods, implement curriculum objectives, and attend in-service training. - Establish classroom policies, provide guidance and discipline, and make referrals for assistance. - Confer with students, parents, and staff to maintain positive relationships and encourage student achievement. - Establish classroom goals, evaluate and record student progress, and prepare reports. - Collect and interpret data for administrative purposes. - Direct the activities of assigned non-certificated personnel. - Attend required staff meetings and serve on staff committees. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Bachelor's degree. - Academic preparation or experience teaching culturally, racially, and economically diverse student populations in an urban school system. - Knowledge of subject areas, effective behavior management, instructional techniques, and student safety rules. - Proficiency in reading, writing, oral communications, and designing lesson plans for diverse achievement levels. - Ability to manage student behavior, adapt to change, use good judgment, and maintain a safe learning environment. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate. - Criminal justice fingerprint and background check clearance. - Background in teaching multilingual learners is strongly preferred. - Bilingual speakers, candidates of color, and those committed to culturally responsive teaching are encouraged to apply. - Some positions may require valid first aid, CPR certification, and a Washington State driver's license or Class II driver's license.
