About This Position
ABOUT THE ROLE
This professional role is responsible for assisting management in the day-to-day operation and maintenance of County-operated airports, specifically at the McClellan-Palomar (Palomar) Airport in Carlsbad, California. Under the direction of the Airport Manager, the selected candidate will oversee airside and landside operations, ensure regulatory compliance, and manage facility inspections and emergency responses.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan, organize, and supervise airside and landside operations.
- Inspect airside and landside facilities.
- Provide airport construction oversight.
- Issue NOTAMs.
- Ensure FAA Part 139 compliance.
- Coordinate special events.
- Enforce environmental regulations.
- Mitigate wildlife hazards.
- Respond to emergencies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in airport/aviation management or a closely related field, plus two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in airport maintenance (including supervising, scheduling, and overseeing maintenance, repair, and technical work for safe airport operations); OR
- Associate's degree in airport/aviation management or a closely related field, plus four (4) years of such experience; OR
- A combination of education and experience as described above (qualifying experience or education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis).
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning employment (current County employees may be excluded).
- Must be willing to work on Aircraft Flight line areas, which may involve exposure to biohazards (fuel spills, hangar fires, dust, gas, fumes, chemicals) and excessive aircraft noise.
- Designated as a Disaster Service Worker under California Government Code Sections 3100 - 3109, requiring participation in assigned disaster service activities.
SELECTION PROCESS
