Emergency Medical Technician (Basic)

ABOUT THE ROLE Beaufort County EMS is seeking dedicated EMS professionals to join a premier, non-fire-based 911 emergency medical service. This role offers a highly desirable 24/72 shift schedule for optimal work-life balance, focusing exclusively on emergency medical response without firefighting duties or routine facility transports. The department provides modern equipment, professional uniforms, body armor, and a balanced call volume of approximately 21,000 calls annually across 11 frontline ambulances and 5 Quick Response Vehicles. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Safely operate an ambulance and its equipment while surveying emergency scenes - Coordinate with additional agencies to develop the best possible treatment plan for medical or trauma situations - Respond to emergencies and provide basic life support to victims prior to hospital transport - Transport patients to local medical facilities while maintaining contact with medical staff - Provide medical aid such as AED, CPR, spinal damage prevention, ventilation, bleeding control, shock prevention, and wound bandaging - Ensure equipment and ambulance interior are always clean, checking and replacing used or damaged supplies - Prepare patient care reports and document medical treatment provided - Restock ambulance supplies - Attend continuing education as required by medical control, employers, or certifying agencies - Perform related work as assigned MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - High School graduation or GED equivalent, supplemented by specialized courses or training equivalent to one year of college - Over six months up to and including one year of related experience - Ability to perform very heavy work involving exerting more than 120 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis (loading, unloading, moving, lifting, fabricating, and installing heavy equipment) SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - South Carolina State EMT Certification - National Registry of EMT Certification - Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification - Valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history - Must pass a urinalysis drug screening and background investigation prior to appointment SELECTION PROCESS - Applications are evaluated based on minimum qualifications and required certifications - Tentatively selected applicants must successfully clear a drug screening and background check prior to employment HOW TO APPLY - Submit your application through the official Beaufort County employment portal - You must include a copy of your state and national registry certification cards with your application; applications submitted without these items will not be considered EMPLOYMENT DETAILS - Employer: Beaufort County South Carolina - Location: Beaufort, South Carolina - Division/Department: Public Safety / EMS - Job Type: Full-Time - FLSA Status: Non-Exempt - Job Number: 202500811 - Opening Date: 07/24/2026 - Closing Date: Continuous - Shift Schedule: 24/72 (24 hours on, 72 hours off)
