About This Position
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Department of Public Health at Tewksbury Hospital is seeking professional and dedicated Registered Nurse III professionals to perform in a permanent charge position on the Patient Care Units. This role involves providing primary nursing care to adult patients, establishing nursing plans of approach, participating as a member of the interdisciplinary team, and assessing the health care and educational needs of patients and their families in a Joint Commission accredited LTAC hospital setting.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide primary nursing care following professional hospital and departmental standards.
- Identify and address patient needs by performing nursing assessments and developing nursing interventions.
- Assume charge nurse responsibility on a daily basis to provide continuity of care.
- Collaborate with the Nurse Manager in the supervision and evaluation of personnel.
- Supervise employees of a lesser grade by assigning tasks, evaluating performance, and making recommendations.
- Facilitate the implementation of treatment plans by conferring with appropriate health care professionals.
- Admit, transfer, and discharge patients, coordinating health care services to ensure continuity of care.
- Identify, evaluate, and respond to changes in patient conditions, documenting and reporting promptly.
- Participate in inter-shift reports, meetings, and nursing rounds to assess health care status and adherence to safety policies.
- Function as a mentor to advance the clinical, educational, and professional development of supervised staff.
- Collaborate with the Nurse Manager and Staff Development to develop orientation programs and unit-based Performance Improvement plans.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- At least one year of full-time (or equivalent part-time) experience as a registered nurse in a recognized hospital, clinic, or medical facility.
- At least six months of the required experience must have been in a supervisory, administrative, or managerial capacity.
- Current and valid registration as a professional nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
- Willingness to work with emotionally disturbed, mentally, or physically handicapped individuals.
- Ability to remain calm, make decisions, and act quickly in stressful or emergency situations.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of supervision and employee performance reviews.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Schedule: 1st Shift, 6:45 AM to 3:15 PM. Days off are every other weekend and rotating during the week.
- Mandatory overtime is required for this position.
- Must possess a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's license (based on assignment).
- Must comply with Title 101 CMR 23.00, requiring acknowledgment and attestation of COVID-19 and Influenza vaccination status or required mitigation measures.
- Preferred: One or more years of Charge Nurse experience.
