About This Position
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Lemuel Shattuck Hospital (LSH) under the Massachusetts Department of Public Health is seeking an experienced and committed Registered Nurse (RN II) to join the team. This role involves prescribing, delegating, coordinating, providing, and improving nursing care according to Performance Improvement concepts. The RN II integrates departmental and hospital missions, state and federal laws, and regulatory standards into professional care for community clients. The incumbent provides leadership and supervision as a team leader or charge nurse in the absence of the nurse manager. LSH serves populations that are often indigent and in the care of state agencies, presenting with clinical issues arising from mental illness, homelessness, and substance abuse.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Initiate physical, psychosocial, and spiritual assessments of patients' nursing care needs according to admission procedures
- Implement and document nursing interventions, transcribe physician orders, and administer, monitor, and document prescribed medications
- Provide ongoing assessment and evaluation of patient status and communicate changes to the health care team
- Document the nursing care process and outcomes in accordance with LSH and Nursing Department policies
- Assess, identify, and provide education and training for patients and their significant others to improve health outcomes
- Participate in departmental and hospital-wide performance improvement and risk management activities
- Contribute to effective interpersonal and community relations, functioning as an advocate and resource person
- Contribute to safety, risk management, infection control, productivity, and cost-effectiveness by maintaining a safe environment
- Demonstrate competence in assessing and providing age-appropriate care to all patients
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- At least one year of full-time (or equivalent part-time) experience as a registered nurse in a recognized hospital, clinic, or medical facility, or an equivalent combination of experience and education
- Current and valid registration as a professional nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing
- Note: A Graduate degree with a major in Nursing may be substituted for the required experience. Recent graduates must have applied for the first available registered nurse examination.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Employees in this position are required to perform mandatory overtime
- Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's license may be required
- Must comply with Title 101 CMR 23.00 by acknowledging and attesting to vaccination status for both COVID-19 and Influenza, or having taken required mitigation measures
- This position is not eligible for a hybrid work schedule
