About This Position

ABOUT THE ROLE Provide diversified network administration and technical support for the Police Department. Duties include a full range of functions to support the Department’s network infrastructure and computing needs, contributing to the efficiency, quality, and timely service provided to clients. The position reports directly to the Sergeant overseeing IT. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Oversee all network activities including configuration, installation, and maintenance of computer network services, software, servers, routers, switches, and telecommunication systems - Participate in and coordinate large scale projects, equipment requirements, cost benefit analysis, and preparation of preliminary system proposals - Perform server analysis and performance tuning of network services - Act as acting Security Officer to monitor, maintain, and ensure integrity of the network infrastructure from internal and external intrusion - Keep documentation of local and wide-area network current and up to date - Manage and coordinate installation of software and hardware - Monitor, maintain, and configure E-mail services and MS SQL Server databases - Set up, configure, and maintain user accounts, file servers, network routers, switches, and related equipment - Evaluate hardware and software applications and forecast future network needs - Monitor and perform regular backups of Windows servers and databases; assist in data restoration - Organize, document, and test disaster recovery and contingency plans - Work with vendors to research and obtain product quotes for network related hardware and software - Monitor software installed on client systems to ensure compliance with vendor copyright laws - Provide assistance to computer users and conduct user training on computer systems and software applications - Design, configure, install, and maintain disaster recovery systems - Provide on-call support as required MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field - Three (3) years of experience in the maintenance and management of LAN/WAN environments - A comparable amount of relevant training, education, and/or experience may be substituted for the above qualifications SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - Law enforcement experience related to security (NCIC, FCIC, NLETS, FBI) and law enforcement systems and telecommunications/radio equipment is highly preferred - Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Florida driver’s license by date of hire - CJIS certification is desired - Required to submit to a State and National Criminal Background Investigation - Knowledge of Microsoft Server products, Cisco routing, switching, and security products - Excellent working knowledge of Windows network environments, including Windows Server OS, anti-virus programs, backup/restore systems, TCP/IP connectivity, and server hardware - Proficiency with standard office productivity tools such as Word, Excel, Visio, Outlook, and MS Project - Ability to perform on-call, evening, or weekend work - Physical requirements: Sedentary work exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally; may require the operation of a City vehicle - Emergency response responsibilities: Subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours and work at locations other than the normal work location HOW TO APPLY Submit an application through the City of North Port, FL official career portal or as directed in the original job posting.
