ABOUT THE ROLE The Weld County Sheriff's Office is recruiting for Patrol Deputies in Greeley, CO. This is a full-time law enforcement position requiring competency in detecting and investigating criminal activity, enforcing local, state, and federal laws, and preparing accurate reports for follow-up investigations and court proceedings. All assignments require rotating shifts as the Sheriff's Office operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Other duties may include serving civil papers, guarding prisoners, and assisting other agencies. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Remain calm and respond appropriately to emergency and threatening situations, including physically subduing and controlling unruly individuals. - Maintain office proficiency standards in the use of firearms and other assigned equipment. - Safely operate a County vehicle in normal and emergency conditions. - Perform law enforcement duties requiring adequate psychological and physical condition. - Successfully complete mandatory training. - Participate in community service activities such as public service talks, PAL program, and crime prevention activities. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - High School Diploma or GED. - Must be at least 21 years of age. - Valid Driver's License (in-state or out-of-state if residing in said state) and liability insurance upon hire. - Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certification. - Effective verbal and written English communication skills, including reading, interpreting documents, and writing routine reports. - Ability to pass a criminal background check, psychological, physical, and background examinations prior to employment start date. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - Must be P.O.S.T. certified or successfully complete requirements for a Colorado Police Officer Standard Training certificate by the hire date. - Pre-employment substance screening is required. Continuous monthly Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) monitoring and random drug screens throughout employment. - Tattoo restrictions: No tattoos on the face or front of the neck. Modest hand and neck tattoos (not extending beyond carotid arteries) are allowed at the discretion of the Sheriff or designee. - Piercing restrictions: Modest piercings allowed (e.g., nostril). No septum, bridge, nasal lang, or rhino piercings. Maximum of one piercing displayed at a time, with specific size limits. Female sworn personnel may wear one pair of post-style earrings in each lobe. - Bilingual language skills are highly valued and may qualify the employee for a bilingual pay differential. SELECTION PROCESS 1. Online assessment through the National Testing Network (NTN) for Law Enforcement. 2. Physical Abilities Test (PAT) located outside the Weld Food Bank in Greeley, CO. 3. Background Check (packet provided at the PAT or available at HR or Sheriff's Office Administration). 4. Polygraph examination scheduled by the polygraph examiner. 5. Drug screen scheduled by a Sheriff's Office employee. 6. Physical fitness examination scheduled by a Sheriff's Office employee. 7. Psychological exam scheduled by the polygraph examiner. 8. Hired.
