ABOUT THE ROLE The City of Wheat Ridge Recreation Center is seeking a part-time Dance Instructor to develop, design, promote, and teach dance programming for participants ranging from age 3 to adult. This role involves instructing various dance forms such as hip-hop, urban, ballet, tap, and jazz, while fostering a safe, engaging, and positive environment aligned with the city's core values of accountability, teamwork, integrity, and proactive service. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Instruct dance classes in forms such as hip-hop, urban, ballet, tap, jazz, or other specialized dance forms. - Develop and teach class content appropriate to the course description and participant level. - Monitor participants' ability to participate and ensure proper attire, such as appropriate footwear. - Provide a safe environment, enforce building policies, and complete necessary reports and forms, including accident reports, health forms, attendance records, and supply requests. - Attend scheduled meetings and secure a dependable, appropriate substitute in the event of an absence. - Prepare lesson plans, organize relative equipment, and set up or break down materials used for instruction. - Perform other duties as appropriate for the position. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - One year of experience is preferred, but not required if the candidate possesses relevant education and/or certifications. - Knowledge of teaching methods, anatomy, exercise science, choreography, class format, and injury prevention. - Skills in public relations and the operation of necessary equipment. - Ability to plan, instruct, supervise, and control large groups of people. - Ability to analyze situations quickly, determine proper courses of action, and work with little or no supervision. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - Adult/Child CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications are required within 60 days of hire. - Must be versatile in all developmental stages. - Physical requirements include the ability to walk, use hands and fingers, reach, climb, bend, stoop, crouch, and occasionally lift objects weighing less than 24 pounds. - Work is performed in an indoor setting subject to noise and distraction, requiring extended periods of hearing and speaking in a loud voice for up to an hour at a time.
