ABOUT THE ROLE The Piedmont Police Department is a participative and service-oriented agency dedicated to providing the best available law enforcement service to the Piedmont community, a city of approximately 11,000 residents in the Oakland Hills. Officers have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in various special assignments, including detectives, traffic, juvenile, task force, bike patrol, use of force instructor, and recruiting. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Provide high-quality law enforcement service to the community - Understand and interpret written and verbal communications and directions - Retain and recall information read and visually observed - Use appropriate judgment in emergency situations - Utilize computers proficiently for law enforcement tasks - Work evening, night, weekend, and holiday shifts as required - Operate in difficult circumstances, including exposure to hazardous materials and all-weather conditions - Maintain strong interpersonal relations and dependability MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Strong written and verbal communication skills - Ability to use appropriate judgment in emergency situations - Proficiency in computer use - Skills in observation, interpersonal relations, dependability, and interest in people - Achievement of a Work Sample Test Battery (WSTB) score of 320 or more - Achievement of a POST PELLET B written exam score of 48 or more, OR a passing score on a National Testing Network (NTN) Law Enforcement entrance exam (these testing requirements are waived for academy graduates) SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - Willingness to work evening, night, weekend, and holiday shifts - Ability to work with exposure to difficult circumstances, hazardous materials, and all-weather conditions - Must pass a comprehensive background investigation, polygraph examination, and pre-employment medical and psychological evaluations SELECTION PROCESS 1. Application review to identify the most qualified candidates based on submitted information 2. Initial process may consist of an oral interview and a timed physical agility test 3. Evaluation by an interview board based on work experience, training, education, job knowledge, and general suitability 4. Police Chief's oral interview for selected candidates 5. Background, polygraph, pre-employment medical, and psychological evaluations 6.
