Crime Analyst

ABOUT THE ROLE This role supports public safety operations across the BART transit system by transforming complex crime and intelligence data into actionable information. The Crime Analyst enhances decision-making, crime prevention, and deployment strategies, serving as a trusted resource to command staff, investigators, patrol personnel, and regional law enforcement partners by identifying crime patterns, emerging trends, and operational risks. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Provide detailed factual analytical, statistical, and narrative reports related to criminal activity - Work closely with the investigations unit to create critical reach bulletins - Convert raw data into valid criminal intelligence information to assist in solving crimes - Analyze records in software programs, maintain accurate recordkeeping, and present findings to department personnel - Write routine programs, extract data, and develop standard and customized reports, charts, graphs, and maps using SQL and SSRS - Monitor crimes, identify trends of criminal activity, and flag hot spots - Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly crime bulletins for dissemination to operational units - Collaborate with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to address violent crime, organized criminal activity, and emerging public safety challenges - Gather intelligence information and coordinate with various agencies to fulfill requests MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in public or business administration, criminology, police science, or a closely related field - Two (2) years of experience involving data analysis and evaluation for the implementation of programs in criminal behavioral or social science fields, or related experience SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - This is an on-site role; remote or telework arrangements are not available - Must be able to successfully pass a detailed background investigation prior to appointment - Must be willing to work various shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime - Selected candidates must pass a pre-employment medical examination, credit check, and polygraph exam - Must provide documentation such as citizenship papers, birth certificates, school transcripts, proof of selective service, DMV driving history, and POST certificates if applicable SELECTION PROCESS 1.
