About This Position
ABOUT THE ROLE
This full-time, regular position within the Antioch Police Department involves receiving, evaluating, prioritizing, and relaying 9-1-1, emergency, and non-emergency calls for service for the cities of Antioch and Brentwood, as well as Antioch Animal Control. The role requires operating telecommunications equipment and performing specialized clerical duties related to law enforcement activities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Receive, classify, and prioritize incoming calls, including 9-1-1, emergency, and non-emergency requests.
- Evaluate necessary responses, determine call priority, and dispatch personnel according to policies.
- Maintain contact with field units, monitor multiple radio frequencies, and relay information.
- Retrieve and relay information from local, state, and national networks regarding wanted persons, stolen property, and criminal histories.
- Operate computer terminals to enter, modify, and retrieve data in RMS, CJIS, and NCIC systems.
- Notify and dispatch Public Works and Animal Control for after-hours call-outs.
- Monitor the County Warning Systems Computer and implement Amber Alerts and Code 666s.
- Monitor security cameras and doors inside and surrounding the Police Department.
- Testify in court and perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school graduation or equivalent.
- Two (2) years of experience in a law enforcement agency as a public safety dispatcher utilizing a computer-aided dispatch system.
- Possession of P.O.S.T. certification in Basic Police Dispatch.
- Appropriate, valid California driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Typing speed of at least 45 net words per minute (wpm).
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must have at least two (2) years of employment as a Police Dispatcher in the State of California to be considered a lateral applicant.
- A validated typing certificate (within the last 6 months) must be attached to the application, showing a 5-minute timed exercise, number of errors, gross wpm, and net wpm. Online certificates are not accepted.
- No felony convictions. Misdemeanor convictions may result in disqualification or termination.
- Ability to work evening, night, weekend, and holiday shifts, and be subject to call-backs or hold-overs.
- Physical demands include sitting or standing for prolonged periods, operating office equipment, and communicating verbally and audibly in a noisy environment.
SELECTION PROCESS
1. Application and typing certificate review.
2. Oral board interviews (dates TBD).
3. Complete background investigation.
