About This Position

ABOUT THE ROLE This is a National Guard Title 32 Excepted Service position for the Illinois Air National Guard (IL 183 WG). The Supervisory Police Officer serves as a first-level supervisor and/or flight chief, providing planning, directing, organizing, and exercising control over nonsupervisory employees assigned to the Security Forces Flight. The role involves enforcing regulations on a military installation, managing security operations, and supervising dispatch activities. This is an indefinite position that may not become permanent; permanent employees who apply and are selected will lose permanent tenure. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Serve as first-level supervisor/flight chief for Security Forces personnel - Advise and counsel employees on policies, procedures, and management directives - Select or recommend candidates for vacancies, promotions, and reassignments considering EEO and diversity objectives - Appraise subordinate worker performance ensuring consistency and equity - Identify employee developmental needs and arrange training to improve job performance - Ensure education and compliance with security directives for employees with access to classified material - Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the base community - Evaluate reports, analyze facts, and prepare detailed responses - Perform and enforce the full range of police officer duties within a military facility - Wield powers of apprehension and detention, including carrying firearms and operating Security Forces vehicles MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Membership in the Illinois National Guard in the military grade listed (Enlisted, minimum rank SrA, may not exceed TSgt) - Specialized Experience (GS-08 Level): At least one year at the lower-level GS-06 involving knowledge of basic laws/regulations, law enforcement operations, and maintaining order/protecting life and property. Experience may be gained in police forces, military police, visitor protection, criminal investigative duties, or similar roles. - Supervisory Specialized Experience: Experience in managing work functions, including leading, directing, and assigning work of personnel. - No substitution of education for experience is permitted.
