About This Position
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Village of Broadview is seeking a Chief of Police to lead a well-respected and professional department serving a diverse, family-oriented community of approximately 8,466 residents. The Chief is appointed by the Mayor with concurrence of the Village Trustees and reports to the Village Administrator. This role involves planning, directing, managing, and overseeing all police department activities, including crime prevention, patrol operations, criminal investigations, records management, and emergency management. The Chief serves as an integral part of the Village's executive leadership team, collaborating with other Department Directors on interdepartmental issues. The department operates with a $6 million budget and 37 employees, including 31 authorized sworn officers.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan, direct, manage, and oversee Police Department activities and operations
- Oversee crime prevention, patrol operations, and criminal investigations
- Manage Village and County-wide records management systems
- Direct emergency management and other law enforcement efforts
- Coordinate assigned activities with other Village Departments and outside agencies
- Provide highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Village Administrator
- Collaborate with the executive leadership team on interdepartmental issues
- Lead a department divided into Operations and Administration Divisions
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree with major course work in police science, police administration, law enforcement, management, or related disciplines
- Master’s degree preferred
Experience:
- Twelve (12) years in police service
- Eight (8) years of progressive supervisory experience
Training and Certifications:
- Completion of police training and education as required by the State of Illinois Law
- Completion of Command Level Management Schools such as FBI National Academy or Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command preferred
- Valid Illinois Driver’s License
Other Requirements:
- Successful completion of all background checks
- Motor Vehicle Report meeting State of Illinois guidelines
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must pass a full background investigation upon conditional job offer
- Must pass psychological evaluation
- Must pass medical examination
- Must pass drug screen
- References will be contacted only following candidate approval
