About This Position

ABOUT THE ROLE The Massachusetts Municipal Association (MMA) is seeking a Legislative Coordinator to provide high-level coordination, administrative support, and project-based research to the Legislative Division. As the recognized voice of local government in Massachusetts, the MMA advocates for cities and towns statewide. This position plays a critical role in supporting the division’s strategic goals, enhancing cross-organizational services, and engaging with member municipalities. The role operates under the direction of the Senior Executive & Legislative Director and involves organizing legislative convenings, managing communications, and conducting policy research. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Organize and manage regular legislative convenings, including the Local Government Advisory Commission, legislative breakfasts, and other assigned meetings. - Coordinate targeted legislative communications to legislators and municipal officials. - Support activities and events related to the MMA’s annual conference, Connect 351. - Serve as a liaison for the Legislative Division with internal teams and working groups. - Contribute content to the MMA’s newsletter and website. - Originate and assist in drafting Legislative Division materials, presentations, and policy updates. - Support the Senior Executive & Legislative Director with testimony and advocacy documents. - Prepare articles for publications and develop legislative presentations. - Conduct project-based research on policy issues to prepare summaries, member surveys, and reports. - Assist with legislative tracking efforts in the Massachusetts General Court. - Provide administrative support to Legislative Division staff and policy committees, including document preparation and note-taking. - Manage Legislative Division schedules and provide direct support for in-person and virtual meetings. - Serve as a primary contact for member inquiries via telephone and email, coordinating follow-up with appropriate staff. - Assist with the development and dissemination of policy resources for members. - Support ongoing database management tasks. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - College degree required. - Three or more years of relevant experience. - Strong interpersonal skills. - Professional written and oral communication abilities. - Attention to detail. - Ability to multitask and work both independently and as part of a team. - Valid driver’s license for in-state travel to meetings and events. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Interest in public policy work and/or local government. - Understanding of Massachusetts state government and the legislative process. - Knowledge of local government operations. - Proficiency in Google Suite. - Experience with legislative tracking and advocacy tools. - Familiarity with Canva, Qualtrics, IMIS/Informz, and other data management systems. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - Must possess a valid driver’s license for in-state travel. - Ability to work in a hybrid-work schedule environment. - Commitment to diversity and equal opportunity principles.
