About This Position
ABOUT THE ROLE
The City of Atlanta is seeking a Psychological Services Specialist I to work at the Atlanta City Detention Center. This professional-level position involves conducting psychological assessments and intake evaluations for prisoners in the corrections or court system. The specialist will recommend specialized treatment, wellness resources, and necessary communications with families or City personnel. The role may include administering therapy, managing aspects of the Employee Assistance Program, monitoring substance abuse policies, and conducting suicide and violence risk assessments. The incumbent will work under general supervision but is expected to carry out assignments with limited guidance, potentially serving as the only professional in this specialty within the work group.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct psychological assessments and intake evaluations for prisoners in the corrections or court system
- Recommend specialized treatment, wellness resources, and communication strategies for families and City personnel
- Administer short or long-term therapy or provide referrals for therapy
- Administer, score, process, and interpret psychological tests for applicants and employees
- Assist in managing the City's Employee Assistance Program
- Monitor substance abuse policy compliance to protect the City from liability
- Provide organizational interventions and conduct employee or supervisor training and crisis response
- Serve as a technical resource or mentor to other employees and may supervise less experienced personnel
- Perform concurrent care reviews, post-clinic/hospitalization follow-up, and care gap management
- Conduct suicide and violence risk assessments
- Provide treatment permissions and prevention support
- Bridge resource gaps that contribute to incarcerations
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in psychology, social work, or a related field (Equivalent professional experience may be considered for substitution on an exception basis)
- Five (5) years of experience in psychological services, social services intervention, or delivery
- Must possess a State of Georgia Clinical license (LPC)
- Must possess a valid Georgia driver's license
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Work is performed at the Correctional Center
- Requires strong knowledge of psychological practices, applicable laws, human resources practices, and corrections/court system policies
- Requires strong skills in planning, organization, presentation, communication, Microsoft Office, psychological testing, and statistics
- Ability to work across City departments is required
- Physical requirements involve sedentary work, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally
