About the Role The County of San Diego is seeking a Construction Engineer to work on impactful community projects, including infrastructure improvements and stormwater pollution prevention. Serving as a Resident Engineer, you will perform engineering duties on large and complex construction contracts for Capital Improvement, Landfill, Road, or Private Development projects within the Department of Public Works or Planning and Development Services. Key Responsibilities - Serve as Resident Engineer and perform engineering duties on large and complex construction contracts. - Monitor the implementation of contractor's stormwater pollution prevention plans. - Work on projects ranging from large-scale grading operations and asphalt work to closed landfills and private roads. - Review large-scale flood control design and construction projects, manage facilities, and respond to drainage inquiries. - Review small residential to large-scale commercial or master-planned communities for the Watershed Protection Program. - Inspect large-scale permitted utility and private development projects, and respond to unpermitted right-of-way encroachments. - Review plans, provide corrections, coordinate project design, and explain engineering and code specifications to the public. Minimum Qualifications - Option 1: At least six years of experience applying civil engineering formulas, theory, and practices to public works improvement projects. - Option 2: Bachelor's degree in Civil, Construction, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a closely related field, AND two years of relevant experience. - Option 3: Master's degree in the above fields, AND one year of relevant experience. - Option 4: A combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements - Some Department of Public Works positions may require a Qualified Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan Developer and/or Practitioner certificate within one year of appointment. - Must be able to perform field inspections and interact with the public to explain engineering specifications. - Designated as a disaster service worker under California Government Code, required to participate in assigned disaster activities.
