Job Title: Assistant Chief Engineer - Trails and Greenways Design Salary: Not specified in the posting About the Role: The Indianapolis Department of Public Works is seeking a full-time Assistant Chief Engineer to assist the Chief Engineer in overseeing critical operational functions in the design section specific to trails and greenways. This role effectively assists in managing department Senior Project Managers and Project Managers in general engineering activities related to trails and greenways projects throughout Marion County. Key Responsibilities: - Assist the Chief Engineer in overseeing the design of all trails and greenways projects. - Serve as project manager for trails and greenways projects, providing staff supervision and technical assistance related to engineering plans, construction specifications, and cost estimates. - Perform QA/QC of plans, specifications, and construction cost estimates developed by others. - Participate in and support public meetings as needed. - Assist the Chief Engineer in ensuring all design activity is performed on schedule, within budgetary limits, and in accordance with current statutes, ordinances, specifications, and contract requirements. - Work cooperatively with consultants and staff to complete projects. Minimum Qualifications: 1. Education: Technical degree or Certification. 2. Experience: Five plus years of related work experience. 3. Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of City, State, and FHWA policies and specifications as they relate to the construction of City infrastructure. 4. Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills, in addition to excellent conflict resolution skills. Special Requirements: - Preferred Qualifications: Possession of a Professional Engineer license in the state of Indiana. - Working Conditions: Duties are performed in a standard office environment, outdoors, and in a vehicle. The role involves standing and walking, walking on uneven terrain, close and far vision, reaching, bending at the waist, and exposure to varying weather conditions and physical hazards normally associated with construction sites.
