About this role

ABOUT THE ROLE The Community Engagement Division of the City of Charlotte’s Housing & Neighborhood Services Department empowers residents and youth through leadership development and proactive community improvement. This role serves as the first point of contact for stakeholders, residents, businesses, and neighborhood organizations in an assigned area. The focus is to work with area neighborhoods to solve problems, promote redevelopment, strengthen neighborhood organizations, improve infrastructure, and act as a liaison to all City agencies. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Advocacy: Maintain a balance between meeting the needs of the City and individual neighborhoods. - Coordination: Align City resources, projects, and initiatives to meet community needs. - Information: Provide information about programs and services to citizens and neighborhood groups. - Problem Solving: Empower neighborhoods and community groups to develop and implement solutions. - Communication: Present information effectively to elected officials and civic groups, and handle conflict resolution. - Public Speaking: Develop and deliver presentations to community groups, businesses, and internal departments. - Facilitation: Lead meetings, dialogue sessions, and focus groups, including evening and weekend meetings. - Leadership: Serve as a liaison between the City and nonprofits, private companies, and business groups. - Research and Analysis: Conduct trend and gap analysis to assess neighborhood conditions and identify needed improvements. - Strategic Planning: Assist organizations in developing goals, missions, and work plans. - Project Management: Plan and implement revitalization plans, activities, and special events. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - High school diploma or equivalent with three years of relevant experience; OR - An associate degree with one year of relevant experience; OR - A bachelor’s degree (Degree in urban planning, business administration, public administration, social work, education, or related field preferred). - Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed for City and community meetings. - Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus, but not required. - Knowledge of urban design and revitalization is desired. - Must be able to work independently and cooperatively in a team environment under pressure with competing priorities.
