About This Position

ABOUT THE ROLE The Department of the Air Force, Air Force Global Strike Command, is hiring Firefighter (Paramedics) for Kirtland AFB, NM. This position serves on a crew engaged in structural firefighting and rescue operations. The primary purpose is to protect persons, property, and the environment by reducing fire hazards, following protocols, and providing advanced levels of life support. This is a Mission Essential position performing a Mission Critical function that must continue uninterrupted during emergencies. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Provide advanced life support (ALS) in emergency situations. - Perform structural firefighting duties for various facilities, including multistoried buildings, industrial areas, and base storage facilities. - Maintain firefighting equipment and fire station facilities. - Comply with health, safety, and environmental rules to enhance workplace safety. - Participate in mandatory physical fitness programs. - Work under adverse environmental conditions as part of respiratory protection and hearing conservation programs. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Specialized Experience: - At least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade (GS-08) or equivalent. - Experience must include duties such as: - Controlling or extinguishing fires as part of an organized fire department/brigade. - Rescue operations. - Detection, reduction, or elimination of potential fire hazards. - Operation of fire communications equipment. - Controlling hazardous materials incidents. - Developing, implementing, or providing training in fire protection and prevention. Certifications Required (Must be current): - Fire Officer I - Fire Instructor I - Fire Inspector I - Firefighter II (includes Firefighter I) - HAZMAT Awareness - HAZMAT Operations - National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) - Paramedic (EMT-P) certification - Must maintain current state or national Paramedic certification. Time-in-Grade (for Federal employees): - One year at the GS-08 level is required for merit promotion applicants. PREFERRED SKILLS - Knowledge of basic and specialized structural firefighting equipment and techniques. - Proficiency in Advanced Life Support techniques and protocols. - Knowledge of building design, construction, occupancy, and safety standards. - Skill in operating communications equipment. - Ability to maintain good working relations and communicate effectively. - Physical ability to lift and carry heavy loads. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship required. - Age Limit: Maximum entry age is 37th birthday by date of appointment, unless waived for prior Federal firefighting service or veteran preference eligibility. - Security Clearance: Secret clearance may be required. - Drug Testing: Testing Designated Position subject to random drug testing. - Physical Fitness: Mandatory participation in physical fitness program. - Work Schedule: 72-hour work week on a 24-hour on/24-hour off basis, including weekends and holidays. Subject to recall. - Driver's License: Valid driver’s license required. - Vision: Ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth. - Probationary/Trial Period: 1-year probationary or 2-year trial period required. - Resume Limit: Resume must not exceed two pages. Font size no smaller than 10 pts. - Documentation: Must upload copies of FF certs and EMR/EMT card. DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification Program transcript or individual certifications required.
