About this role

ABOUT THE ROLE Floor Care Technicians are responsible for the overall floor maintenance of hard surfaces, carpeted areas, and upholstered furniture within the Baltimore Convention Center. This is a non-civil service position with no supervisory responsibilities. Employees receive moderate supervision from Operations Crew Leaders and Operations Supervisors, work on a rotating shift basis, and perform work primarily in building interiors. The role requires moderate physical exertion and includes evening, weekend, holiday, shift-work, and occasional mandatory overtime. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Performs preventative maintenance checks on all equipment prior to use. - Secures the work area and posts proper safety notices for other users prior to beginning work. - Installs and replaces carpet and tile throughout the building as necessary. - Cleans and maintains hard surfaces, carpeted areas, and upholstered furniture. - Mops (dry and damp), buffs, and burnishes hard surface floors. - Vacuums, shampoos, bonnets, and extracts carpets, stairwells, and upholstery. - Maintains inventory of supplies, orders replacements, and maintains cleaning schedules and maintenance records. - Ensures proper cleaning and maintenance on specialty floor equipment. - Monitors floors for cleanliness and damage. - Secures all equipment and supplies in proper storage areas. - Performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Education: High School Diploma or GED Certificate (commensurate experience will be considered in lieu of a high school diploma). - Experience: One year of experience in floor care with primary responsibilities in carpet maintenance and hard surface cleaning. - Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience. - Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 1. Ability to work independently with moderate supervision. 2. Ability to read and understand operating manuals for floor and carpet cleaning equipment. 3. Ability to operate floor and carpet cleaning equipment upon training. 4. Ability to properly remove or install carpet tile, PVC tile, and other floor treatments. 5. Ability to perform basic maintenance on tools and equipment according to manuals and supervisor direction. 6. Ability to complete and maintain records and inspect floors to determine any problems. 7. Operational experience with primary carpet cleaning equipment such as Chariot Ivac Ride on Vacuum, Tennant R14 Ride on Carpet Extractors, Tennant 6100 Ride on Sweeper, Tennant EC2 Carpet Extractor, or Counter Rotating Brush Machine. - Preferred: Floor care or carpet cleaning certifications. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - Must successfully complete a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint screening, as this is a position of trust. - Must complete a 6-month mandatory probation period (applies to all selected persons, including current City employees). - Must be available for evening, weekend, holiday, shift-work, and occasional mandatory overtime.
