ABOUT THE ROLE
This is a 9-month, full-time position at River Parishes Community College, an open admission institution in Louisiana. Instructors may be assigned classes at any of the four campuses (Gonzales, Reserve, Plaquemine, and St. Charles) based on student need and institutional demand. Teaching assignments may include face-to-face, online, and/or evening classes. Full-time faculty are expected to actively serve on campus committees, participate in campus activities, and engage in student advising and recruitment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform all instructional responsibilities in accordance with the role, scope, and mission of the College.
- Adhere to the designated schedule of classes and office hours, ensuring punctuality and full instruction for the complete class period.
- Create and maintain an equitable and respectful learning environment for all students.
- Develop and distribute course outlines, expectations, grading systems, attendance policies, and safety policies within the first week of class.
- Ensure adequate class preparation so that content is up-to-date and presented professionally.
- Utilize a variety of teaching and assessment methods to accommodate different learning styles while covering the approved curriculum.
- Maintain accurate attendance, progress, and evaluation records in a college-approved format.
- Utilize required technology, including the Student Information System, Canvas LMS, and discipline-specific platforms.
- Contribute to the assessment of program student learning outcomes and implement strategies to improve teaching and learning.
- Participate in the review, development, and revision of discipline-specific curriculum.
- Support student success through academic advising, mentoring, tutoring, and other student support services.
- Attend and participate in commencement, graduation, and pinning ceremonies as assigned.
- Participate in college in-service programs, professional development opportunities, and mandated training.
- Work a 40-hour week, which includes instructional time, class preparation, grading, office hours, and institutional service assignments.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in communication/speech OR a master’s degree in any discipline with 18 graduate semester hours in communication/speech.
- Official transcripts must be submitted.
- Previous teaching experience is preferred.
- Proficiency in classroom technologies (podium computer, laptop, iPad, SMARTBoard) and use of Canvas LMS.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Satisfactory pre-employment background check (an offer of employment is contingent upon this).
- Must be available to work across multiple campus locations as determined by institutional demand.
