About This Position
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Office of Technology and Innovation (OTI) leverages technology to drive opportunity, improve public safety, and enhance government services across New York City. The Senior DevOps Engineer reports to the Infrastructure Management division and provides Site Reliability Engineering for current and new automation services while writing, updating, and maintaining code.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitor CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes clusters, and application health dashboards.
- Triage alerts, apply documented fixes for low/medium issues, and escalate complex incidents.
- Write, update, and maintain basic scripts, YAML configurations, and Terraform/Ansible modules.
- Perform smoke testing and validation of deployments in development and staging environments.
- Participate in design sessions and code reviews with senior engineers.
- Maintain wikis, runbooks, deployment guides, and troubleshooting documentation.
- Perform special projects and initiatives as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Master's degree in computer science and 3 years of progressively responsible IT experience (including 18 months in an administrative, managerial, executive, or supervisory capacity).
2. Bachelor's degree and 4 years of progressively responsible IT experience (including 18 months administrative/managerial).
3. High school diploma and 6 years of progressively responsible IT experience (including 18 months administrative/managerial).
4. Satisfactory combination of education and experience, requiring at least a high school diploma, 3 years IT experience, and 18 months administrative/managerial experience.
- Note: Undergraduate and graduate credits may substitute for up to 2 and 1 years of IT experience respectively, but cannot substitute for the 18 months of administrative/managerial experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Open to permanent City Employees in this title or those reachable on the current civil service list.
- Eligible for the 55-a Program for qualified persons with a disability.
- Preferred skills include 6+ years in DevOps, expertise in Terraform (IaC), AWS/Azure/GCP, Kubernetes, Jfrog Artifactory, ELK Stack, Ansible, OpenShift, Kafka, NSX-T, and VMware vSphere.
