Storytelling in the Age of AI: AI Generates Information...Only Humans Create Meaning
AI Can Generate Information.
Only Humans Can Create Meaning.
After spending more than thirty years helping people write books, I've noticed something interesting. The biggest obstacle most authors face isn't a lack of information.
It's a lack of meaning.
Many of the people I work with are experts. They have decades of experience, notebooks full of ideas, certifications, credentials, stories, frameworks, and enough material to fill multiple books.
Yet they still get stuck at some point during the writing process.
When they do, the first assumption is almost always the same: "I need more information." So they read another book. Take another course. Attend another workshop. Do more research. Gather more notes.
And still the book doesn't move forward.
Eventually, we stop talking about information and start talking about meaning. What are you really trying to say? Why does this matter? What story are you avoiding? What truth are you afraid to tell?
And that's when everything changes. Not because they learned something new. But because they discovered what was already true.
That's why I think creative storytelling is becoming more important in the age of AI, not less.
AI can generate information. Lots of it. AI can generate outlines, ideas, summaries, content, and possibilities faster than any human ever could.
But information isn't the same thing as meaning.
Storytelling is how we transform information into meaning. It's how we connect experiences into lessons. It's how we recognize patterns. It's how we make sense of our lives.
It's how we decide what matters.
And that's one reason we are offering the CityGov Limited-Seat Writing Workshop: Your Voice is Your Competitive Adantage.
Not because I want people to compete with AI. But because I want people to understand what remains uniquely human.
AI can help us generate information. Discernment helps us identify what matters. Storytelling helps us create meaning from it.
And in a world overflowing with information, understanding meaning may become one of our most valuable human skills.
What do you think?
As AI makes information easier to access than ever before, does that make meaning more valuable?
If you are interested in pursuing this question and more, join us for our free CityGov Limited-Seat Writing Workshop: Your Voice is Your Competitive Advantage for thought leaders, city professionals, business professionals, and aspiring writers who want to think more deeply, tell better stories, and use AI without losing their authentic voice.
